This sword was used in the later medieval period from the 13th-17th century. These swords have a long cruciform hilt with grips typically ranging from 10-15 inches in length allowing space for use with two hands. They commonly weight from 2.5 to 5 pounds and are 40-48 inches of blade length which is a straight double edge blade. Among being designed for use with two hands they slice, stab, and hew. Every part of the sword was used for an entirely offensive purpose, including the pommel and crossguard. It was a powerful and versatile weapon for close infantry combat prized for its killing capability.
